VfL Wolfsburg have secured the Bundesliga title with a 2-1 win over Mainz 05 at the Veltins-Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating chances throughout the game. However, it was Wolfsburg who were able to find the back of the net twice in the second half, with Enner Valencia and Arnold scoring in quick succession.
Valencia's goal came just after the hour mark, as he converted a penalty kick following a handball by Mainz goalkeeper Simon Rost. The goal gave Wolfsburg a 1-0 lead and set them up for victory.
Arnold added to Wolfsburg's advantage three minutes later, scoring from close range to make it 2-0. The final whistle saw Wolfsburg crowned champions of Germany for the first time since 2016.
It was a fantastic display of football from Wolfsburg, who dominated the game from start to finish. Their success is well-deserved, as they finished the season with a record-breaking 44 points, six more than runners-up RB Leipzig.
Wolfsburg will now look forward to next season, where they will be hoping to defend their Bundesliga title and continue their impressive run of form under manager Stefan Gratz.
